Preserve Your Pet's Teeth With Endodontic Treatment

Endodontics focuses on diagnosing and treating dental issues related to the tooth pulp and roots. Endodontic treatment can help prevent the need for a tooth extraction and help your cat or dog maintain a healthy mouth.

Using endodontic therapy, either in the form of vital pulpotomy or root canal treatment, we can often maintain the structure and function of a tooth rather than extract it. Once your pet has been evaluated by our veterinary team we will be able to determine whether your pet's tooth is a candidate for endodontic therapy.

If you notice that your dog or cat has persistent bad breath, difficulty chewing, or swollen gums, it's important to consult with your veterinarian. A veterinary referral to Hale Veterinary Clinic could be beneficial to help restore your companion's oral health.

The Benefits of Endodontic Treatment

Oftentimes, endodontic treatment is preferable to having the tooth extracted. The benefits associated with this treatment include:

Avoiding Extraction of a Tooth

Treatment can save a natural tooth, eliminating the need for a more invasive surgical procedure to extract it. Generally, the discomfort felt after a root canal procedure is less than the discomfort following a tooth extraction. A root canal often has a shorter recovery time than an extraction.

Maintain Integrity of the Bone

By saving a natural tooth, we can help maintain the integrity of your cat or dog’s jawbone. Teeth put pressure on the jaw bone when chewing and biting. This pressure actually helps keep the jaw bone healthy and strong.

High Success Rate

Endodontic treatments for pets generally have a very high success rate. And even in the unlikely event that a tooth that previously underwent endodontic treatment becomes infected again, retreatment is a viable option and still preferred over an extraction.
